Install
Add Peek The Look to Chrome.
Peek The Look is a Chrome extension for desktop. Install it once and it works on every store you visit.
Chrome Web Store
Peek The Look is on its way to the Chrome Web Store. Until it is listed, install it manually — it takes about a minute.
It also works in other Chromium-based browsers that accept Chrome extensions, such as Microsoft Edge and Brave. Chrome on phones and tablets does not support extensions.
Manual install
- 01
Download
Download
peekthelook-widget.zipand unzip it. Keep the folder somewhere permanent — Chrome loads the extension from it every time. - 02
Open the extensions page
Type
chrome://extensionsinto the address bar and press Enter. - 03
Turn on Developer mode
Flip the Developer mode switch in the top-right corner of the page.
- 04
Load it
Click Load unpacked and choose the folder you unzipped — the one that contains
manifest.json. - 05
Pin it
Click the puzzle-piece icon in the toolbar and pin Peek The Look, so its icon is always one click away.
Your first try-on
- 01
Open any online clothing store and go to a product — a T-shirt, trousers, a dress.
- 02
Press “Try on” under the product name. (No button? Right-click the photo and choose “Try this on with Peek The Look”.)
- 03
Log in, or create an account with your name, email and a password of at least 8 characters.
- 04
Upload a front-facing, full-body photo in good light.
- 05
Press “Try it on” and wait a few seconds. Drag across the result to compare it with your photo.
Your photo is saved to your account, so from now on it is just “Try on” → “Try it on”. Every look is kept in Library → Try-ons until you delete it.
Permissions
Chrome lists what an extension is allowed to do when you install it. Here is what each of Peek The Look’s permissions is for.
Updating & removing
From the Chrome Web Store, Peek The Look updates itself.
Installed manually, download the new zip, replace the contents of your Peek The Look folder with it, and press the reload arrow on Peek The Look’s card in chrome://extensions.
To remove Peek The Look, click Remove on its card in chrome://extensions. Removing the extension does not delete your account — do that from the profile menu inside the panel first if you want your photos and looks gone too.
Troubleshooting
I don’t see any “Try on” buttons.
Reload the tab — pages that were open before you installed Peek The Look do not have it yet. On a listing, cards whose photo has not scrolled into view are skipped until it has. And on any page, right-clicking the garment photo always works.
The panel stays blank or shows an error.
The store’s security policy is probably blocking it. Click the Peek The Look icon in the toolbar while on that store: the page reloads with the policy off for that site only, and the icon shows CSP. Click again to turn it back on when you are done.
“This product’s image couldn’t be used for a try-on.”
Peek The Look could not download the garment photo — some images sit behind a login or are not a regular web address. Right-click a different photo of the same product.
“Too many try-ons in a short time.”
There is a short-term limit per person. Wait a minute and try again.
Chrome warns about developer-mode extensions.
Chrome shows that notice for every manually installed extension. It goes away once you install Peek The Look from the Chrome Web Store instead.
I have to log in again on each store.
That happens when Chrome is set to block third-party cookies, or in an Incognito window. Your photos and looks are still there — it is the same account.
